Formerly the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center (TBEIC), BRITE was re-invented in 2019 with the mission of empowering founders to launch energy technology solutions. Through its shared resource center and technology business incubator/accelerator, BRITE works to increase high-impact, energy technology business and career opportunity in the Mahoning Valley and Northeast Ohio. BRITE consists of a shared resource center, business incubator, co-working space, and a testing and development lab. Combining an industry-focused incubator with a unique shared technology center promotes the interaction between entrepreneurs and industry, significantly improving the odds of successful outcomes.
Recognized as the #1 University Affiliated Incubator in the World by UBII in 2014, the YBI focuses on accelerating the formation, growth, and success of technology and additive manufacturing startups in the Mahoning Valley. The YBI operates a 5 building campus in Downtown Youngstown giving its portfolio companies a physical place to call home. The YBI is also home to America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, as well as Turning Technologies, the fastest growing software company in the world and their biggest graduate portfolio company to date.
The YSU Research Foundation (YSURF) is an independent 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to assist in providing technical support services to regional clients, while working in collaboration with Youngstown State University. YSURF serves as a gateway for business and industry to engage select YSU resources for a variety of support services, technical and otherwise. In this capacity, YSURF can access and engage university resources on behalf of external partners. YSURF offers fee-for-service technical analysis, testing and advanced manufacturing for clients, as well as management services for community initiatives, including the Mahoning Valley Innovation and Commercialization Center.
